E-Commerce SEO: Growing a Jewelry Store’s Traffic by 7k!

You can’t sell E-commerce products if no one knows about your online store.

If you haven’t invested in search engine optimization (SEO) yet, chances are your store remains in relative obscurity, making it next to impossible to grow your revenue.

This is because no matter what a user intends to buy, 89% of all purchases begin on search engines like Google.

Moreover, E-commerce sites receive 33% of their overall traffic from their SEO efforts, meaning you’re missing out on a big piece of the pie if you aren’t ranking on search engines.

In this case study, we’re going to tell the story of how we drastically transformed an online religious jewelry store’s performance on search engines.

They went from relative obscurity to generating thousands of dollars worth of organic traffic to their website in one short year.

How did we do it?

Through our renowned SEO expertise, of course!

Stay tuned to learn how we achieved a 7k boost in organic traffic, got them ranking for over 11k relevant keywords, and $9.6k worth of consistent traffic

The Client: A Religious Online Store Selling Pendants, Medals, and Necklaces

Our client operates a family-run online store that sells handmade religious jewelry for practitioners of the Catholic faith.

They’re a true mom-and-pop business, as one spouse runs the website while the other handles customer service.

Despite their humble operation, they produce truly jaw-dropping saint medals, crucifix pendants, and many other types of religious jewelry.

There was just one problem.

Their online visibility wasn’t cutting it at all, meaning they were missing out on tons of potential business.

They discovered that SEO was the missing element after doing some digging online, and they began to research providers.

After coming across a few of our case studies, they knew we were the service that could handle their in-depth SEO needs.

During our initial consultation, we discovered that the client’s primary goals were to

  1. Generate more traffic to their online store
  2. Rank higher for important keywords related to religious jewelry
  3. Build their website’s authority so they could rank higher

Since there was a lot of work to do, we decided to set them up on a HOTH X campaign, which is our fully managed SEO service.

It’s where we completely take the SEO process off a client’s hands so they can focus on running their business instead.

Once the papers were signed, we got straight to work on an SEO audit.

The SEO Audit: Looking for Easy Wins and Fixing Technical Issues

Regardless of their industry, every client receives an SEO audit to kick off their HOTH X campaign.

This is because if we don’t catch pressing issues like indexing errors or slow loading speed during the audit, they WILL come back to bite us later. We prefer a strategy that goes off without a hitch, which is why we always conduct thorough audits.

The audit is also when we look for easy-win keyword opportunities. These are keywords the client ranks for already (and likely doesn’t even realize it). However, these keywords aren’t in the top 3 or even on page one yet.

Instead, they’re low-ranking keywords that we know we can boost with some simple optimizations.

Easy-win keywords are great because they can lead to quick results for clients (since SEO is notoriously slow).

The Strategy: Building Authority Through Link-Building

Once the audit was complete, our primary strategy was to beef up the site’s authority by building lots of backlinks.

For this client, we aimed for a mix of backlinks with decent to high DA (domain authority) and DR (domain rating) scores.

Strategy-wise, we made heavy use of link insertions (where you add a backlink to an existing piece of content on another website).

In particular, we found religious websites where adding links to our client’s products made perfect sense as a valuable resource for readers.

Here’s one such example:

As you can see, the hyperlink leads to one of our client’s landing pages selling necklaces, and it makes perfect sense in the context of the article.

The Results: A 7k Boost in Traffic, Ranking for 11K+ Keywords, Massive Traffic Value

It didn’t take long at all for our efforts to start yielding results, and yield did they ever!

The client saw a 7k increase in organic traffic, as evidenced by this graph:

The orange line is their organic traffic, and it grew from total obscurity to record numbers in around six months!

They’re also ranking for over 11,000 keywords related to their business, with 1,000 keywords ranking in the top 3.

Their organic traffic continues to kill it, as they’re consistently seeing a traffic value of $9k.
