Securing a $2k Traffic Value for Fitness E-commerce Store
No matter what you sell, the e-commerce space is incredibly competitive.
First, you’ll always have to compete with Amazon, the e-commerce behemoth that sells every product under the sun.
To put that into perspective, Amazon receives 2.08 billion visits each month, and they account for 37.6% of the overall e-commerce market.
Besides that, there are a whopping 27 million e-commerce stores in the world, 52% of which are in the United States. Moreover, these online stores cover every industry and niche you can think of.
So, how are you expected to succeed in such a crowded marketplace?
With the power of search engine optimization (SEO), of course!
If you enact a clever SEO strategy, you can rank for crucial keywords on search engines like Google that your competitors aren’t, enabling you to carve out a special place for your store in the market.
For proof, the subject of today’s case study was struggling to find their footing online.
They were getting outranked by their competitors, and they were struggling to generate traffic to their online store.
However, thanks to our help, we brought about a 2.8k boost in traffic, and we got them ranking for 3,000+ relevant keywords, 172 of which are in the top 3!
Stay tuned to learn how we achieved these results (and how we can do the same for you)!
The Client: An Online Retailer Selling Fitness Equipment
Our client is a fitness enthusiast who invented a special belt designed specifically for runners.
It’s the perfect place to stash your phone, keys, and other valuables while you go for a leisurely run, and the belts are comfortable and durable.
Soon after inventing the product, her idea took off in a big way.
She now sells her running belts worldwide and has built a strong reputation for her brand.
Despite the success, the website’s performance on search engines was beginning to dwindle post 2020 due to steep competition.
While they were still generating thousands of visitors per month, they knew they were leaving a lot of money on the table due to being outranked by competitors.
At this point, they knew they needed to ramp up their SEO efforts, which led to them getting in touch with us after receiving a glowing recommendation from one of our previous clients.
During the initial consultation call, we sussed out the client’s main SEO goals, which were as follows:
- Create compelling content based on trending fitness keywords
- Build their website’s authority through backlinks to achieve more ranking power
- Generate more traffic to core product pages
We knew the best way to achieve these goals was to set up the client on a HOTH X campaign, so that’s what we did.
HOTH X is our fully managed SEO service where we combine all our products to form a cohesive SEO strategy. Each client gets connected with a dedicated campaign manager to enjoy 100% hands-off SEO (plus amazing results).
The SEO Audit: Looking for Easy Wins and Making Technical Optimizations
Before we kicked off the main portion of our strategy, we started with an SEO audit – which is the first step for every HOTH X campaign.
An SEO audit involves:
- Ensuring on-page and technical SEO factors are in order, such as proper keyword usage, fast loading speed, and resolving any indexing errors.
- Looking for easy-win opportunities, which are keywords the site already ranks for, but they aren’t on page one. With some quick optimizations, we can get these keywords ranking higher pretty quickly.
The client’s website was professionally done, so we didn’t encounter many technical issues.
However, we found tons of easy-win keyword opportunities, such as ‘is it safe to run in 90 degree weather.’
At the time, they ranked in position #11 for this keyword.
Now?
Position #1, baby!
Yep, we were able to raise this keyword’s ranking by 11 entire spots, all through the power of one optimized blog.
The Strategy: Regular Blog Posts and Link-Building for Core Product Pages
Once the audit was complete, we moved on to the meat and potatoes of the strategy, which was:
- Regularly releasing high-quality blogs centered around trending fitness keywords
- Reaching out to other websites in the fitness niche to build valuable backlinks
As stated before, we found great success with our blogs, as one of them skyrocketed the client’s keyword ranking by 11 positions.
That was by no means the only impressive feat we achieved through blogging, though.
Here’s another example where we got the client ranking in position #1 for a keyword they weren’t ranking for at all previously:
To capitalize on these high rankings, every blog post receives an enticing call-to-action (CTA) to ensure lead generation and conversions.
On the link-building side, we found great success with link insertions, which is where we insert one of the client’s backlinks into an existing piece of content on another site.
Since the client sold extremely helpful running belts, it was easy to convince site owners to add links to their products, as they clearly provided value to their readers.
Here’s one such example:
As you can see, the Domain Rating of this link is 78 (it’s out of 100), which is very high and authoritative.
These backlinks helped the client rank for even more keywords due to the trust they built with Google.
The Results: 2.8k Boost in Traffic, Ranking for 172 Keywords in the Top 3
Once our efforts started to kick in, they took off and haven’t let up yet.
Here’s what the client’s organic traffic looks like now:
Thanks to our help, they were finally able to rise out of obscurity and start clearing impressive numbers again.
Also, we got them ranking for over 3,000 fitness keywords, and they regularly generate $2k worth of traffic each month.
